Rolling in the Spring

Spring Break 2012......a phrase that bring about visions of sleeping late, lazy Spring days, and time spent bonding with the kids and Daddy Weasley. Too bad the visions turn out to be more illusion than reality... at least here in the middle of the week. Dad is at work,in fact off on inspections trying to catch polluters in our fair state, the Twins have deserted me for 36 hours to go off with one of their best buds and his Dad fishing (still no word of their exact time home at the moment), and I am so behind on the mess we call home that lazy moments are few.

The bright side? The kids and I did get to travel (sans Daddy Weasley) over the weekend to visit my oldest brother in Huntsville. We hit the McWane Center (a science museum) in Birmingham on the way up North and then spent an Sunday afternoon strolling through the Wernher Von Braun exhibit at the US Space and Rocket Center. Von Braun is someone Al greatly admires and he loves learning all about the man that gave birth to the United States space program.

The trip was fantastic even though it started off with tears. Jacks was devastated that Daddy Wealsey stayed home to focus on the Oak house and it's pending Open house. That devastation resulted in heartbreaking tears for the first 30 minutes of the trip. Yes, my son is definitely a daddy's boy. After he finally made peace with the concept that I was not turning around to head home, I found that playing "Rolling in the deep" by Adele over and over and over made him happy. We were all laughing as he worked on learning the lyrics and trying to hit the high notes in the chorus. I will never listen to ♪♪♫♪♫Rolling in the Deee--eee---eeeepppppp♪♪♫♪♫ the same way again.

The road trip also had many of those milestone moments for me....I remember the excitement of watching the original Muppet Movie and how much I adored the Muppets as a kid (and still do);  my kids got to experience that excitement while watching the new Muppet Movie as we toddled up the byways of Alabama. A minor bonding moment for all of us as we recognized tie-ins to the original movie, even though I could only listen to the movie as I drove...I have to say it truly is the little things in life that make it worth living.

More of the little things thankfully captured on "film" from the weekend:

No matter how young or old, bubbles will always serve as fascination.....

The sea will always have a siren's call.....

History can be fascinating and humorous (I always did admire Queen Victoria).....

History is one of the best places to look for role models....

.

That being Fearless takes baby steps....

That there is always something fascinating right around the corner.....

And no matter what the obstacles, we should always reach for the stars.......
