A work in progress

Saturday marked the kick off of football season. Warrr Eagle!  While most people were traveling to games, tailgating, or revving up for big parties at home, we were doing something a bit more unconventional. We started the huge task of painting the exterior of  the Auburn Burrow! I am quite impressed with just how much Wayne and I accomplished in 2 days, although there is still so much to do. And by the way, the old Huck Finn/Tom Sawyer trick? It so did not work on anyone but Jacks, who quickly became bored and started painting everything but the house.

Side Porch: (this stays in the shade all day, so we are hitting it when things are too unbearable on the sunny sides)

The front and side of the house...these pictures are a before and after shot in one, as this will be a more slow and tedious process due to the height challenge:

This shows the stucco at the bottom of the house painted in the same shade of grey instead of the previous tan...still debating if this needs to be a tad darker? All trim will be painted white (but we decided to go ahead and hit everything with grey for "protection" since it has been so long since the house was last painted. )

Once all the painting is done, I want to focus on planting some good foundation plants...something that can handle full sun from about 12 noon till 4:30 or so and something doesn't require too much maintenance. I will gladly accept any and all suggestions! 

 You can see the point where we have stopped with our current ladder height...still debating just how to tackle the upper points. Anyone master the Wingardium Leviosa spell yet or know of a good painter that can handle the height challenge? We have spots of siding that need to replaced, and figure that can be slowly worked on during the week. Thankfully, there's not as many as we expected to find. For now, we are skipping those boards at the bottom (see chimney base) :0) 

So, that's our work in progress....wanted to let everyone know so that you don't slow down in too much shock as you drive by. The fewer cars that get rear ended as drivers take in all the changes the better (and believe me we've had a few cars almost come to a stop in the middle of the street!)....hopefully we can wrap this home improvement up by the end of football season...in time for the Championship bowl games. :0)
